Augusta State ends its slide

In St. Augustine, Fla., Devonte Thomas scored 21 points to lead four players in double figures as Augusta State routed Flagler 92-55 in a Peach Belt Conference game on Wednesday night to snap a three-game losing streak.

Tye Beal and Devon Wright-Nelson added 14 each and Harold Doby had 11 for the Jaguars (3-4, 1-1 PBC). Wright-Nelson also had 13 rebounds.

Matt Clark scored 12 points to lead Flagler (6-4, 0-3).

In the women’s game, Augusta State led by as many as 20 and cruised to a 60-49 victory, its fourth in a row.

Tiffany Jaecks and Brittany White scored 10 points each to lead the Lady Jaguars (5-3, 2-0). Laci Schreiber had a game-high 12 rebounds.

Taye’Lor Trotter, of Flagler (1-7, 0-3), led all scorers with 21 points.



‘GMA’ to feature staff of Jackets

Members of the Augusta GreenJackets front office will be featured in an episode of ABC’s Good Morning America.

A TV crew wrapped up taping at Lake Olmstead Sta­dium on Tuesday for a feature
on health in the workplace.

Lauren Christie, the team’s director of game entertainment and marketing, said the show followed the team’s staff and offered advice on how to make more healthful choices in the office. The feature, part of Dr. Rich­ard Besser’s Doc and the Door series, is set to air Fri­day between 8 and 9 a.m.

“They were looking for that all-American type office,” Christie said. “They highlighted healthy habits, good posture, smart lunch choices and things like that.”

Swede signs to play for Jaguars

Viktor Edin has signed a national letter-of-intent and will join the Augusta State’s men’s golf program for the 2012-13 season, coach Kevin McPherson announced.

Edin, from Bro, Sweden, captured the 2011 Swedish School Championship and won the 2010 Junior Masters Invitational Tour Final in his native country. He finished second in the Viksjo Junior Open in 2010 and 2011 and was third in the 2011 Skandia Boys Junior Open.

• In Girona, Spain, former Augusta State golfer Jamie Elson shot 1-over-par 73 on Wednesday and fell five spots to a tie for 46th after the fifth round of the European Tour’s Final Qualifying Stage at PGA Catalunya Resort.

Elson is at 5-under 351 with one round to play in the six-round event.

The field was cut to the top 70 players after the fourth round, eliminating former Jaguar standout Patrick Reed, who was tied for 137th.

Tom Lehman was voted the Champions Tour Player of the Year after a season in which he won three times and took the Charles Schwab Cup. Lehman also won the money list, the only Champions Tour player to surpass $2 million.

Two decades ago, Lehman was player of the year on what then was called the Hogan Tour. He was voted player of the year on the PGA Tour in 1996 when he won the money list and two tournaments, including the British Open for his lone major.

Derby winner in 1991 euthanized

Kentucky Derby winner Strike the Gold has been euthanized after injuring his left front leg while in his paddock at a farm in Turkey.

The 1991 Derby winner Nick Zito had battled laminitis lately but was in good health before injuring his pastern. Strike the Gold was 23.

The chestnut son of Alydar was retired in 1993 after winning six starts and earning $3.45 million.
