Columbia County’s Ryan Bowers spent most of his football career earning trophies and awards. Now all he wants is a rose.
Bowers, a former Greenbrier sports star and the owner of a local sports training facility, has been selected to be on the next season of The Bachelorette.
A member of Bowers’ staff at AthElite Sports Training Academy in Evans confirmed he has left town for a few weeks to be on the show.
“We don’t know a whole lot of details,” trainer Casey Munn said. “But he is on the show, and he did get the first one-on-one date.”
Bowers, 31, will be one of several eligible bachelors competing for the heart of a bachelorette when the next season of the show airs this summer on ABC.
According to US Weekly, Bowers and the bachelorette, Emily Maynard, dined together last week in her hometown of Charlotte, N.C.
After a successful football career at Greenbrier, Bowers played at Presbyterian College and later signed a pro contract with the Atlanta Falcons, who sent him to play in NFL Europe. Bowers, one of only two former Columbia County football players to reach the professional level, also played in the Arena Football League.
During the later years of his pro career, Bowers made Evans his home base and started a personal training business. His company, which trains several local athletes in a variety of sports, now plays host to the area’s top high school football combine. Bowers found a permanent home for his business a year ago, opening an 8,000-square-foot facility at 2520 Associates Way in Evans.
Bowers has also served as an assistant coach at Augusta Christian Schools and later as head football coach at Westminster Schools of Augusta.
