NFL will review referee's comments toward Redskins player

Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan says he will speak to the NFL about an incident in which a game official allegedly directed profane words at left tackle Trent Williams.

Shanahan said Monday he’s “disappointed” over the incident and added: “You just can’t use that type of language to get your point across.”

Williams says he was called vulgar names by official No. 81, umpire Roy Ellison.

SUSPENSIONS: Colts linebacker Erik Walden and Buccaneers safety Dashon Goldson earned one-game suspensions from the NFL for illegal hits Sunday.

BEARS: Coach Marc Trestman says Jay Cutler will not play this week but remains the team’s No. 1 quarterback despite Josh McCown’s strong play.

OBITUARY: Former linebacker Thomas Howard died early Monday morning following a high-speed car crash on a freeway in Oakland. He was 30.

Howard was most recently with Atlanta before getting released last week after playing two games this year.

BRONCOS: Safety Rahim Moore underwent emergency surgery to staunch bleeding in the muscle sheath in his lower left leg, a condition known as lateral compartment syndrome that can cost patients a limb or even their life.

BILLS: An unruly fan who survived a fall from the top deck of Ralph Wilson Stadium onto a man below has been banned from the stadium and could face charges, officials said Monday.

Video from Sunday’s game shows the fan sliding down the 300 level railing in a seated position before flipping backward and plummeting about 30 feet.

He and the man he landed on suffered minor injuries.
