Falcons agree to five-year deal with safety William Moore

Star William Moore will remain with Atlanta after agreeing to a new deal.

The Atlanta Falcons agreed to terms with safety William Moore on a five-year contract.

Moore was a Pro Bowl alternate with Atlanta last season, when he had four interceptions and 105 tackles. He was one of the top names on the team’s list of unrestricted free agents.

Moore, a second-round draft pick from Missouri in 2009, has made 38 starts in four seasons with the Falcons. He was limited by a hamstring injury to 12 games last season. He set a career high with five interceptions in 2010.

The Falcons released running back Michael Turner, defensive end John Abraham and cornerback Dunta Robinson last week. General manager Thomas Dimitroff said his priority is to keep the team’s free agents, including Moore.

STEELERS: Released linebacker James Harrison after the team and the hard-hitting defensive star who played on two Super Bowl champions failed to agree on a new contract.

Pittsburgh general manager Kevin Colbert said in a statement that “James has been an integral part of our success during his years in Pittsburgh and has helped us win two Lombardi trophies during that time. We appreciate all of his efforts and wish him the best.”

Harrison was voted AP’s NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2008 after setting a team record with 16 sacks. The five-time Pro Bowl player has the longest interception return in Super Bowl history, a 100-yarder for a score against the Arizona Cardinals in 2009.

BILLS: Reached an agreement to re-sign cornerback Leodis McKelvin to a four-year contract worth a little over $20 million.

He was used mostly as a third cornerback last year, when he finished with one interception in 13 games

SAINTS: Linebacker Junior Galette agreed to a three-year contract to remain with New Orleans.

CHARGERS: Agreed in principle to a four-year contract with kicker Nick Novak.

REDSKINS: Fullback Darrel Young and tight end Logan Paulsen agreed to three-year deals to remain with the team.
