Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly meets with Eagles



The Philadelphia Eagles have interviewed Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly for their coaching vacancy, league sources told ESPN.

Kelly met with the Eagles on Tuesday, and there was mutual interest after the interview, according to league sources. Kelly left the country after meeting with the Eagles and could not be reached for comment.

The Eagles and Kelly have agreed to revisit talks when he returns this weekend, according to league sources.


REDSKINS: Quarterback Robert Griffin III had his lateral collateral ligament repaired and his ACL reconstructed on Friday for a second time.

The surgery was performed in Florida by orthopedist James Andrews, who was optimistic that Griffin would be back on the field this fall.


SEAHAWKS: Placed kicker Steven Hauschka on injured reserve because of a calf injury and signed veteran kicker Ryan Longwell, the team announced Wednesday.

Seattle visits Atlanta on Sunday.

Longwell, 38, made 22 of 28 field goal tries for the Vikings last season but until Wednesday hadn’t signed with a team since being cut in May after Minnesota drafted former Georgia kicker Blair Walsh in this past April’s draft.


PANTHERS: Hired New York Giants senior pro personnel analyst David Gettleman as their new general manager to end their lengthy search to fill the position. Gettleman replaces longtime Panthers GM Marty Hurney, who was fired after Carolina’s 1-5 start.


COLTS: Offensive coordinator Bruce Arians remains hospitalized as doctors try to determine the extent of a health problem that has now forced the cancellation of at least one of his scheduled interviews to be a head coach.


BROWNS: Carolina’s offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski interviewed Wednesday for the vacant head coaching job.
