Munchak will try to 'pick up the pieces' as new Titans coach

NASHVILLE, Tenn. --- New Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak made one thing very clear Monday: Change is coming, even though he coached under Jeff Fisher the past 14 seasons.

"I'm going to be my own man, and I'll be judged by what I do and not what was done before me. I'm not looking here to blame anybody about what was left for me," Munchak said at his first news conference. "I think it's a great opportunity here with what we have, and I think I'm the guy to pick up the pieces and hopefully get us in the right direction."

Munchak, who was hired Monday, is the franchise's 16th head coach. Neither he or the Titans would comment on his new contract.

This is the first head coaching job for Munchak, who turns 51 in March, with the only franchise the offensive line coach and Hall of Fame lineman has ever played or worked for since being selected eighth overall by the then-Houston Oilers in 1982.

EAGLES: The mayor of Dallas says he did not sanction giving Philadelphia quarterback Michael Vick a "key to the city."

Vick won The Associated Press Comeback Player of the Year award this past season, his second in the NFL since serving 18 months in prison for operating a dogfighting operation.

Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway presented the key at a ceremony in Dallas last week. In a statement Monday, Mayor Tom Leppert distanced himself from the gift.

"The action taken was not sanctioned by my office and was not an official ceremonial honor on behalf of the city of Dallas," he said.

In his own statement, Caraway said the key was "ceremonial."

BRONCOS: Wide receiver Eddie Royal is recovering from an offseason hip operation. Team spokesman Patrick Smyth says the Broncos are hopeful Royal "will be ready for OTAs (organized team activities) in late May."

BENGALS: New Cincinnati offensive coordinator Jay Gruden still hasn't talked to Carson Palmer .

Gruden is implementing a far different offense -- totally new terminology -- on a team unsure about its franchise player.

Palmer asked for and was denied a trade after a 4-12 finish that left the Bengals with only two winning records in the past 20 years.
