Georgia receiver Mitchell will miss rest of spring practice with leg injury

Georgia junior wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell, recovering from a right knee injury that ended his 2013 season, will miss the remainder of spring practice after hurting his left leg.

Georgia announced Saturday that Mitchell was injured during practice Tuesday.

“The good news is we think he’ll be ready by the summertime to be working and be 100 percent by the time camp starts,” coach Mark Richt said after Saturday’s third practice of the spring. “... We don’t think it will cost him the season at all or even any camp for that matter.”

Mitchell had 40 catches for 572 yards and four touchdowns in 2012.

NAVY: A freshman running back collapsed during spring practice Saturday and was airlifted to a hospital.

Will McKamey was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Unit, according to a Navy official. He was receiving medical care Saturday night.

COURTS: Former Colorado lineman Alex Lewis has been sentenced to 45 days in jail and two years of probation for his role in a fight that left an Air Force Academy cadet unconscious.

The Daily Camera reports the 21-year-old, who was sentenced Friday, pleaded guilty in December to third-degree assault. Boulder police arrested Lewis and Colorado quarterback Jordan Webb on May 11 after witnesses said the men were involved in a fight with 22-year-old cadet Lee Bussey. Webb also pleaded guilty to third-degree assault and was sentenced to two years of probation and 20 days on a work crew.

FALCONS: Defensive end Osi Umenyiora will return to the team and no restructure of his contract is planned, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
