BOSTON — Carmelo Anthony had 28 points and nine rebounds as the New York Knicks held off the Boston Celtics 89-86 on Thursday night.
Amar’e Stoudemire added 15 points and nine rebounds for the Knicks.
Rajon Rondo had a triple-double for the Celtics with 23 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists.

HORNETS: Tom Benson is changing his team’s nickname to the Pelicans and said the switch will create a bond with the city of New Orleans that could lead to a championship.
The Hornets announced Thursday they are going ahead with the name change. The NBA still has to approve it, but commissioner David Stern has said he wouldn’t object to any name Benson chose. The league is expected to expedite the change at the start of next season.
Benson, who also owns the Saints, bought the team last spring.
ALL-STAR RESERVES: Tim Duncan was selected to his 14th All-Star game, Spurs teammate Tony Parker is joining him, and the Chicago Bulls also had two reserves chosen Thursday for February’s game in Houston.
Joakim Noah and Luol Deng were picked from the Bulls.
