Hawks' Smith to miss game vs. Thunder

Hawks forward Josh Smith will miss tonight’s game at Oklahoma City because of a right ankle sprain.

Atlanta says Smith won’t travel with the team. There was no mention of the injury after Smith played 41 minutes in the Hawks’ season-opening 109-102 loss to Houston on Friday night.

The Hawks said on Saturday that Smith was injured during the game. Smith had 18 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots against the Rockets.

Smith set career highs by averaging 18.8 points and 9.6 rebounds last season.

The Hawks say backup center Johan Petro will also miss tonight’s game because of a lower back injury. He wasn’t in uniform on Friday night.

LAKERS: Steve Nash has a small fracture in his left leg and will be out of the lineup for at least another week.

The Lakers announced the results of the point guard’s MRI exam Saturday.

Nash got hurt in a collision with Portland rookie Damian Lillard on Wednesday night. He missed the Lakers’ 105-95 loss to the Clippers on Friday night, dropping the Lakers to 0-3 for the first time in 34 years.

The two-time NBA MVP joined the Lakers last June for his 17th NBA season, agreeing to a three-year, $27 million contract before his trade from Phoenix.

WARRIORS: Brandon Rush’s season is over after two games.

Rush’s agent, Mark Bartelstein, says Saturday that an MRI exam on Golden State’s top reserve revealed a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Rush will have season-ending surgery.
