It was a tough weekend for the Los Angeles Lakers, who didn’t get Chris Paul or Dwight Howard.
All they got was a headache.
Lamar Odom wasn’t happy, so he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks for a 2012 first-round pick, which made Kobe Bryant very unhappy.
“I don’t like it,” Bryant said Sunday, the third day of training camp. I’ve known Lamar for a long time, and for the team itself, he’s meant a lot in terms of his versatility, his personality.”
Bryant said he never gets in the way of management “but it’s tough. You’re talking about sixth man of the year last year. He played lights out.”
PACERS: David West is headed north to Indiana, where he will join forces with Danny Granger and former Hornets teammate Darren Collison.
West agreed to a two-year deal with the Pacers on Sunday that his agent, Lance Young, said was worth $20 million.
“Indy was a team that I was really giving a good, hard look at,” West said in a phone interview.
The Pacers have not yet announced the free-agent signing, but West said he planned to be in Indianapolis today.
WARRIORS Golden State has signed center DeAndre Jordan of the Los Angeles Clippers to a restricted free agent offer sheet, the team announced Sunday.
The 6-foot-11 Jordan has emerged as an athletic and promising young center in three years in Los Angeles. He averaged 7.1 points and 7.2 rebounds in 25 minutes per game last season.
KNICKS: New York signed veteran guard Mike Bibby, re-signed forward Jared Jeffries, and their two draft picks Sunday, finally giving themselves enough healthy bodies to hold a normal practice.
BULLS: General manager Gar Forman had little to say about Richard Hamilton or Howard.
Hamilton is widely expected to land in Chicago once his buyout with Detroit is finalized and he clears waiverst.
Forman, however, wasn’t tipping his hand Sunday, insisting “really, all I know is what I’ve read” and he didn’t want to talk about other team’s players.
The same goes for Howard.
The Magic granted New Jersey, Dallas and the Los Angeles Lakers permission to talk to Howard’s agent, about possible deals.
