Augusta State’s Henrique Boturao rallied in the deciding third set this morning to lift the Jaguars to a 5-4 win over Grand Canyon in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight in Louisville, Ky to advance the Jaguars to the Final Four.
Augusta State will play West Florida later today to set up the finals.
In the quarterfinals, Augusta State held a 4-2 edge over Grand Canyon before play was suspended due to darkness Thursday night.
Augusta State No. 1 seed Bernardo Fernandes lost his match to Stephane Murray in the third set. ASU No. 3 Victor Cabellos lost in two sets to Patrice Giraldi. It all came down to Boturao.
Trailing 4-3 in the third set to No. 22 Frederic Schoelzel, Boturao broke serve and then held serve. Up 5-4, Boturao broke serve again to win the final point and send the Jaguars to their first Final Four appearance.
On Thursday, Augusta State went 2-1 in doubles to grab an early lead. Then, Victor Guimaraes and Jan Labas each won their matches in two set to give the Jaguars two more points.
