BOSTON — Peter Budaj stopped 34 shots and the Montreal Canadiens ended Boston’s recent scoring binge with a 4-1 win over the Bruins on Thursday night.
The Canadiens won their second game in three nights after losing four in a row. They also stopped a four-game winning streak for the Bruins, who had 21 goals in that stretch.
Alexei Emelin and Max Pacioretty scored before Dougie Hamilton’s goal cut Montreal’s lead to 2-1 after one period. Brian Gionta made it 3-1 at 11:54 of the second, ending goalie Tuukka Rask’s night.
PREDATORS: Shea Weber is day to day with an upper body injury and did not skate Thursday in Nashville’s first practice since the defenseman was hurt.
Weber left Tuesday night’s 4-3 win at Winnipeg 3:28 into the third period and did not return.
DEVILS: Jay Pandolfo, 39, is retiring after 15 seasons in the NHL and two Stanley Cups with New Jersey.
The forward announced his retirement Thursday through the NHL Players’ Association.
AVALANCHE: Signed Russian goaltender Semyon Varlamov to a five-year extension that goes through the 2018-19 season.
Varlamov, 25, is thriving under first-year coach Patrick Roy.
