In Fayetteville, N.C., the Augusta RiverHawks' offense came to life on Thursday night, and it happened against an unlikely foe -the front-running Fayetteville FireAntz.
Augusta, behind Shawn Skelly, scored six unanswered goals in the third period to rally from a 4-1 deficit and beat the SPHL leaders 7-4. Augusta (2-10-2) had scored just 23 goals in its previous 13 games before catching fire Thursday night against the FireAntz (12-2-0).
Skelly had two of the six goals in the third period. Ian Watters, who had Augusta's first-period goal, also had one in the final period. The other third-period goals were by Kyle Watson, Taylor McReynolds and Pat Schafer. Skelly and Watters also had assists.
Robert Moss got the win in goal for Augusta, stopping 11 shots while playing the final 24 minutes. He replaced BJ O'Brien who gave up the four Fayetteville goals.
It was the first of three games in as many nights for the RiverHawks. Augusta plays host to the Mississippi Surge tonight and Saturday. Both games start at 7:30 p.m.
