ATLANTA - With a second-half comeback for the ages, Burke County defeated Peach County, 28-14, to claim the Class AAA championship Saturday at the Georgia Dome.
Donquell Green and Corey Mayton each scored a pair of touchdowns as the Bears (14-1) won their first state title. Burke County scored 28 unanswered points, 21 in the second half for the victory.
Donquell Green broke a tackle at the line and scored on a 35-yard run in the third quarter. Later in the quarter, Corey Mayton scored on a 1-yard run. After Untorrey Thomas' extra point, the Bears led 21-14.
Green scored on a 13-yard run deep in the fourth quarter to give Burke County a 14-point margin.
Peach County scored the game's first two touchdowns. Kentel Kendrick scored on a 1-yard run in the first quarter and added a 21-yard touchdown pass to Demarcus Robinson in the second quarter.
At the end of the half, Mayton scored on a 1-yard run to pull the Bears within 14-6 at halftime.
