Greenbrier has had some potent lineups over the years. This year's edition is no different.
Ask senior shortstop Jake Sandlin, though, and he'll tell you that this lineup has a unique quality when compared with those past groups.
"It's a lot of fun because it's always different guys every night," he said. "We've got some guys who show up most of the time, but there's someone different who's on every single night."
Sandlin set the table from the leadoff spot in Tuesday's 17-2 victory over Region 2B-AAAA rival Lakeside, and several of his teammates also got in on the offensive act. He also ended the contest with a three-run double off the right-field fence that capped an 11-run third inning.
The game ended because of the run rule when Greenbrier (8-2, 2-1) reached a 15-run lead.
Taylor Glover and Kyler Timmerman did the most damage in helping Greenbrier to its third consecutive double-digit win.
Glover started off the big third inning with a home run. He finished 3 for 3 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored. Meanwhile, Timmerman was 3 for 3 with two doubles and five RBI.
The Wolfpack hit for the cycle in the third, which featured Glover's solo shot and Spencer Duffie's RBI triple. Timmerman, Glover and Sandlin all doubled in the inning.
"We've just been hitting," Timmerman said of a lineup that is averaging 12.9 runs a game and has scored 15 or more four times. "Whenever we hit, we're going to win games."
After Greenbrier put up four runs in the bottom of the first, Lakeside (4-5, 1-1) responded in the second by scoring a pair of runs off starter Austin Robinson.
Tony Perella got hit by a pitch before Jacob Wright reached on an error. Then, with one out, Daniel Anderson roped a single to left that loaded the bases.
On a 3-1 pitch, Daniel Henry got the Panthers on the board with a two-run single to left.
Perella reached twice, singling in the top of the third inning.
Robinson settled down after that. He scattered four Lakeside singles and struck out five in three innings.
