Jackson stars in win over Silver Bluff

Strom Thurmond's Jontavius Jackson helped the Rebels quiet Silver Bluff's offense in a 42-14 win.

Jontavius Jackson’s goal is simple, and he’s making it look easy.

When the nose guard is ready to win a play, he tries to beat the center and create chaos for the offense.

In Strom Thurmond’s 42-14 win against Silver Bluff this past Friday, Jackson dominated as the Rebels shut down the Bulldogs’ Wing-T offense. Jackson’s strong play earns him The Augusta Chronicle’s Player of the Week honor.

“I just want to knock the center around,” Jackson said. “When I play, I just think about not giving up on my team.”

Silver Bluff’s rushing attack had overpowered foes until it met Jackson and Co.

Against South Aiken, the Bulldogs rushed for 451 yards and held possession for huge chunks of the game.

But thanks to Jackson, Strom Thurmond gave up only 116 rushing yards. The Bulldogs didn’t even get an offensive touchdown until 1:04 remained in the game.

“He freed everyone else up,” Rebels coach Lee Sawyer said about Jackson. “He caused them a lot of problems on the inside.”
