Richmond Academy falls, season comes to end

Liberty County 26, Richmond Academy 10

PLAY OF THE GAME: When Liberty County went up by two scores just after halftime, Travis Beatty kept Richmond Academy close with a 72-yard touchdown run. Lining up at quarterback, the regular tailback broke a tackle near the line of scrimmage, scooted right, then accelerated and out-ran several defenders.

STAR OF THE GAME: Highly- recruited senior Raekwon McMillan turned in a complete game on both sides of the ball for the Panthers. At running back, he rushed for a game-high 127 yards on 11 carries. At linebacker, he had 15 tackles, while forcing a fumble and recovering another.

WHY LIBERTY COUNTY WON: The Panthers’ defense held the Musketeers to just five first downs and 133 total yards, with 72 of them coming on one play.

WHY RICHMOND ACADEMY LOST: The defense held consistently after a rough start in a game that, for most of the night, was closer than the final score. However, the Musketeers didn’t produce enough offense and couldn’t get the passing game going.

QUOTABLE: “We had three fumbles and an interception in the first quarter that really set the tone against us. We had bad field position. But we fought. We played hard. I’m proud of them.” – Richmond Academy coach Chris Hughes on his team’s loss in the Region 3-AAAA play-in game.

NEXT: Richmond Academy finishes the season at 5-5.
