South Aiken's Brown signs with Clemson

Josh Brown signed a National Letter of Intent with Clemson and became the first NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision player out of the Jeremy West era at South Aiken.

Teammate Tarik Scafe joined him on the special day and signed with Benedict College in front of a crowd of more than 100 in the South Aiken High School library.

West said other major college football programs had contacted Brown in recent weeks, but Clemson showed interest months before them and the big defensive linemen had already made up his mind.

“My friends and family supported me wherever I was going to go,” Brown said. “Through the thought process I came up with positives and negatives about Clemson, and I found a lot of positives. I felt at home.”

Brown led South Aiken with 88 tackles - 13 for loss - last season.

The Thoroughbreds snapped the area’s longest losing streak this past fall by starting the year with back-to-back wins. But a season-ending injury to starting quarterback Bo Baldwin hurt the offense, and South Aiken failed to win another game.
