Burke County's Green picks Marshall

Marshall the choice of Bears standout

Burke County star football player Donquell Green has committed to Marshall.

Green completed his high school career this past season, leading the Bears to a 9-3 season where they reached the Class AAAA state quarterfinals. As a starter, the dual-threat quarterback piloted a high-scoring offense that scored 40 points or more in 12 games the past two seasons.

Green publicly announced his decision on Twitter, saying, “Through this hard process I have come down too this .. I will be attending THE university of Marshall !!! #HerdNation.”

For his junior season, Green was named The Augusta Chronicle’s All-Area Georgia Player of the Year. He rushed for 1,827 yards and passed for 1,399 yards in 2012.

As a sophomore in 2011, Green shared quarterback duties with starter Corey Mayton in the Bears’ 14-1 state championship season in Class AAA. In the state final against Peach County, the speedy Green rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns in the 28-14 win.

No stranger to potent offenses, Green now goes to a Thundering Herd program that averaged 42.1 points per game this season.
