The wait and number crunching is over – the Aquinas and Lincoln County football teams know the path to the state championship.
The Georgia High School Association’s Class A brackets for private and public schools were released on the GHSA Web site Wednesday, after a process that could have included appeals or adjustments to the power ratings. Those power ratings were used to fill out the two 16-team brackets.
In the private bracket, sixth-seeded Aquinas plays No. 11 George Walton. The Irish (8-2) beat George Walton 28-21 in overtime Sept. 7. A year ago, Aquinas made it to the Class A state quarterfinals in its best finish in program history.
As for the public bracket, Lincoln County got the top spot. The 9-1 Red Devils will be home against No. 16 Hancock Central. Those two met Nov. 9, when Lincoln County won 27-8 to finish its regular season with an eight-game winning streak.
The Class A playoffs begin Nov. 23, a week after the other classifications start their playoffs.
