Four area football teams are ranked in this week’s Georgia high school poll. All four are in the top five for what could be a volatile week.
Aquinas, Jefferson County, Washington County and Washington-Wilkes remain the four local teams entrenched in the Georgia Sports Writers Association rankings.
In Class A, Aquinas stayed No. 3 in advance of this Friday’s huge game at region rival Lincoln County. Though unranked, the Red Devils have beaten the Irish 32 games in a row.
Up in Class AA, Washington-Wilkes improved to fourth after beating defending state champion Jefferson 21-14.
In the next classification, unbeatens Washington County at No. 3 and Jefferson County at No. 5 play this week in Sandersville in a crucial Region 3-AAA game.
Finally, Burke County is just outside the Class AAAA poll, holding status as the team with the most receiving votes. The Bears just beat Wayne County, which dropped from sixth to No. 10.
