LOUISVILLE, Ga. — For the second week in a row the Jefferson County found the road to the dome leads between the uprights.
With just 4 seconds on the clock, sophomore kicker Evans Hodges kicked a field goal to beat Rabun County 31-28 and send his Warriors to the semifinals for the first time in school history.
“Survive and advance, that’s the way it’s been all year long,” Warrior head coach JB Arnold said after the game. “We have a team that just won’t quit. We’ve had adversity … but it seems like we’ve won three games in a row like that. These are great kids and this is great for our community.”
Each team scored a touchdown in every quarter.
Senior quarterback TJ Bell completed 21 of 37 passes for 333 yards and all but one of the Warriors’ TDs.
In the fourth quarter senior linebacker Kurt Bell stripped the ball from a Wildcat and returned the fumble 67 yards for the Warriors’ final score.
The Wildcats connected on a 40-yard touchdown pass moments later from sophomore quarterback Bailey Fisher to Tristan Huggins to tie the game at 28, leaving the Warriors just over three minutes to set up Hodges’ kick.
With this win the Warriors earned the right to play host to the semifinals next Friday against Fitzgerald, a 54-28 winner over Benedictine.
