Faced with the same situation in the previous game against Evans, Lakeside coach Jody Hilley knew what play he wanted to run with six seconds left in Friday’s game against Greenbrier.
Sam Powell got the ball on a pick-and roll, his shot was off but it bounced right to Bryce Adair who flipped it in as time expired, giving the Panthers (7-11) the 57-55 win.
“Sam shot and missed it and I was in the right position,” said Adair. “I’ve been working on my baby hook.
In girls action, Greenbrier topped Lakeside 44-38.
Trailing by six with 2:44 to play, the Wolfpack (2-14) tied it at 54 with 1:31 to go on a Justen Hartfield 3-pointer. The teams exchanged lone free throws setting up the final sequence.
Sam Powell scored seven points in the fourth quarter and finished with 15. Connor Sigrist led the Wolfpack with 12 points, while Hartfiled chipped in with 11.
In girls action, the Lady Wolfpack (13-4) started off slow, but took the lead for good at the beginning of the second quarter and would not reliquish it.
Jennifer McMahan had 14 of her 16 points in the first half while Deztinie Cotton scored all 10 of her points in the second half after going to the bench early with foul trouble.
Morgan Taylor also pitched in with 11 points.
Holly Sweeting led the Lady Panthers with 10 points.
