While Greenbrier and Harlem both wanted to win, Tuesday night’s volleyball match was about more than that.
Greenbrier (Area 2-AAAAA) and Harlem (Area 3-AA) both have crucial area matches on Thursday, so Tuesday’s out-of-area play was preparation for those.
Greenbrier will head into its matches against Lakeside and Evans on Thursday having won 12 of 14, including its 25-3, 25-2, 25-7 win over Harlem.
The bigger Lady Wolfpack were dominant at the net, led by DeJhana Cotton, who registered 14 kills, with Lauren Ingalls getting 10 assists.
If the Lady Wolfpack (21-13) defeat Lakeside on Thursday, they will be the area’s No. 1 seed heading into tournament play at Grovetown on Oct. 11.
“Every game is an experience to get better and improve on little things no matter the score,” said Greenbrier head coach Debbie Born. “We’re working on things that we need to work on and they’re working on things they need to work on.”
Harlem (1-15) faces Laney and Josey on Thursday night, then it plays host to Josey on Tuesday. A split with Josey would most likely get them into the Class AA state playoffs for the second consecutive season.
“Laney and Josey is big, we either go to state playoffs again or we don’t if we don’t win,” said Harlem head coach Rebekkah Bullard. “It’s good for them to play these types of games before big tournaments to make sure we’re ready for that.”
