It was a busy day at Greenbrier on Wednesday as four players signed their letters of intent.
From the Lady Wolfpack soccer team, standouts Katie Belser and Emily Ludwig, who helped lead the Lady Wolfpack to the state tournament’s Elite Eight in 2012, signed with Division II Limestone College.
Representing the girls lacrosse team, defenseman Hannah Hutto signed to play for Piedmont College. Hutto is the Lady Wolfpack’s second lacrosse player to sign with a college in the program’s six-year history and will be a part of Division III Piedmont’s second season next year.
Boys lacrosse defenseman Phillip Yount became the second Wolfpack player in as many years to ink a letter of intent to play for NAIA Emmanuel College, which begins its first season this spring.
HARLEM: Linebacker Austin Ledoux signed to play football with Division III LaGrange College. Ledoux is coming off a season in which he was an All-Region 3-AA second team selectee at linebacker, receiving All-Columbia County honorable mention.
LAKESIDE: Linebacker Alec Leeseberg signed with Division III Berry College.
Leeseberg, who was on the All-Region 2-AAAAA first team and named to the All-Columbia County first team at linebacker, will be a part of the Vikings inaugural season in 2013.
JOSEY: LaPorscha Wells knew she was strong. And as she walked down the middle school hallways, others noticed that as well.
She used her ability to excel with the shot put. With a throw of 40’2”, she placed second in the state in Class AAA as a junior in 2012.
Now Wells is rewarded, as she signed with Georgia State.
“My coach just talked to me, she was like, ‘Porscha, I’ll be seeing you playing in the hallways, just tossing around these little boys, so you should come out and do shot put,’ ” Wells said, recalling her time in middle school. “I was like, ‘Sure.’ I went out, tried it and was good at it, so I decided to carry it throughout high school, and it got me [a scholarship].”
