SCHOOL: CURTIS BAPTIST
Cole Swanson knew his football career was ending, but he made sure he closed it by leading his team to new heights.
Swanson rushed for 193 yards and three touchdowns and added a kickoff return for a score as the Crusaders won a program-record four games this season by beating David Emanuel Academy, 34-32.
“It was bittersweet, definitely” Swanson said. “I was happy we won but distraught it was my last game.”
The all-time leading rusher in team history, Swanson had 312 total yards in the season’s final game.
Coach Nathan Duffie said Swanson has always been mature and consistent in leading the Crusaders by example, and he finished his career doing just that with another big game.
Swanson had 1,188 yards and 17 touchdowns on the ground this season, helping the Crusaders (4-6) win their final game of the season for the first time since 1996.
“He does everything the right way,” Duffie said. “He’s mentally tough and physically tough.”
