North Augusta High School senior Vinny Miller confirmed Wednesday morning that he has committed to play football at The Citadel next fall.
The Yellow Jackets running back and The Augusta Chronicle’s South Carolina high school football player of the year led the area in rushing with 2,704 yards and 36 touchdowns.
“They’re the ones who have been the most interested in me,” Miller said of the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly NCAA Division I-AA) program. “It’s a place I can go play football and get a great education and a great job.”
Miller was a key contributor to the Yellow Jackets’ run to the Class AAAA Division II state semifinals this past fall. Head coach Dan Pippin said Miller was overlooked by some college programs because he was a linebacker, punter and punt returner as a junior and didn’t start at tailback until his senior year.
Miller said he made the decision to go to The Citadel after defensive coordinator Josh Conklin and assistant coach Craig Candeto visited his house last weekend. Miller said he’ll most likely be a tailback for the Bulldogs.
