Augusta Prep pounds Georgia Force

Augusta Prep 36, Georgia Force 7

Augusta Prep’s dominant rushing attack struck again Friday as the Cavaliers made the Georgia Force their latest victim.

The Cavaliers rushed for 355 yards and five scores as they pounded the Force 36-7 on homecoming.

Quarterback Nate Pylant led a three-headed attack that saw him, Nolan Brandon and Kevin Huggins each rush for more than 100 yards as they improved to 4-0, 1-0 in the Glory for Christ Conference.

The Cavaliers’ rushing attack set the tone for the game on the first drive as Brandon finished off a five-play, 70-yard drive with a powerful 8-yard run up the middle.

“We were coming out hard, we wanted to make a statement to the league that we are not to be messed with, this is our year,” Brandon said.

Once the Force (2-3, 2-3) started focusing on Brandon, Pylant was able to use him as a decoy, rushing for scores of 13 and 19 yards as Augusta Prep built its lead to 22-0 with eight minutes left in the half.

As noted by coach Harry Bacheller, the Cavaliers weren’t perfect as Huggins had two touchdowns nullified because of penalties. Huggins broke through at the end of the third quarter, however, as he went up the middle and broke outside for a 49-yard touchdown run as Augusta Prep went up 36-0.

Bacheller gave credit to his senior-laden backfield and made sure to praise the work of the offensive line.

“Without them, we wouldn’t have nearly the success we’re having,” Bacheller said.

PLAY OF THE GAME: At the end of the third quarter, Kevin Huggins took a handoff up the middle, broke to the outside and scored a 49-yard touchdown untouched.

STAR OF THE GAME: Nate Pylant ran the triple-option to perfection, rushing for 116 yards and three scores.

WHY AUGUSTA PREP WON: The Cavaliers controlled the line of scrimmage and racked up 355 rushing yards.

WHY GEORGIA FORCE LOST: They had 15 penalties for 97 yards and couldn’t stop the Cavaliers’ rushing attack.
