Georgia Bureau of Investigation still looking into incident at Warren County

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation continues to look into the Warren County-Hancock Central postgame incident following the football game in Sparta, Ga., on Oct. 14.

GBI spokesman John Bankhead said the investigative file will be handed over to Fred Bright, the district attorney for the Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit, once the investigation is complete.

The postgame altercation included a Hancock Central player reportedly striking a Warren County player in the back of the head with a helmet before Screaming Devils head coach David Daniel was hit himself when he tried to intervene. Warren County also alleges pepper spray was used on only its people.

Hancock County Schools Superintendent Gwendolyn Jefferson Reeves said while she didn’t see the incident, she welcomed the GBI’s involvement.

“I want to get to the truth as soon as possible,” Reeves said. “I want justice. I want justice based on facts.”
