Burke County’s Donquell Green and Aquinas’ Brendan Douglas were among the area football players to be named to the Georgia Sportswriters Association All-State first team on Tuesday.
Green, a junior, earned the honor at the “athlete” position in Class AAAA. Douglas, a senior, got the nod as a linebacker in Class A.
Also in Class AAAA, Westside senior Shannon Smith earned a second-team nod as a returner.
In Class AAA, Thomson and Washington County dominated the list.
The Bulldogs placed running back Chris Jordan on the first-team offense, while Washington County had offensive linemen Avery Archer and Michael Selby and athlete William Walker.
Thomson defensive lineman Bernard Dawson and defensive back Felton Hatcher were named to the first-team defense.
Also for the Bulldogs, lineman Kendall Reynolds was selected to the second-team offense, and defensive back William Bussey and returner Torrie Battle were chosen to the second-team defense. Offensive lineman Patrick Taylor earned an honorable mention.
Defensive lineman Quin Latimer, defensive back A.J. Gray and punter J.W. May were on the second team for the Golden Hawks.
In Class AA, Screven County running back Jeremy Johnson and Washington-Wilkes linebacker Tomarkus Young earned first-team nods.
Tigers offensive lineman Alex Hackney was chosen for the second team and quarback Buck Robinson earned an honorable mention.
In Class A, Lincoln County linebacker Dayshawn Taylor joined teammate Jalen Franklin, a defensive back, on the second team. Aquinas defensive back Antonio Clark was also on the second team.
Lincoln County running back Mike McIntire and Aquinas offensive lineman Napoleon Williams earned honorable mentions.
