After reaching the Final Four of the Class AAAA state tournament the past three years, expectations are running high for the Greenbrier girls tennis team.
The Lady Wolfpack (13-0) took that first step Wednesday, beating Northside-Warner Robins 5-0 in the first round.
“I feel that today was more just an important step in the process,” said Lady Wolfpack coach Brittany Jackson on her team’s win.
“We’re not going to go out and celebrate tonight.”
The road to the Final Four will go through Greenbrier, which will play at home until it reaches the semifinals held in Clayton County or it loses.
The Lady Wolfpack are slated to play host to the winner of Mundy’s Mill and Woodland in the second round.
Senior Katie Krupp was the first off the court with a 6-0, 6-0 win. A veteran of state tournament play, she wasn’t taking anything for granted.
“I always expect good competition and I play my best at all times,” Krupp said.
The doubles team of Brooke Sanderson and Lauren Batchelor finished next, winning 6-2, 6-0.
Seniors Molly Lee and Heather Frazier made the win official with their 6-0, 6-1 doubles triumph.
Completing the day were singles players Blaire LaSure and Morgan Taylor who finished with identical 6-0, 6-1 scores.
“Today felt really great, I didn’t feel nervous having been here before,” Lee said. “We’ve got to take it step-by-step. We’re just getting started.”
