MOBILE, Ala. — Jennifer Rosales birdied five of the first seven holes on the back nine and finished with 5-under-par 67 on Thursday in the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic for a share of the first-round lead with Katie Futcher, Lindsay Wright and Caroline Hedwall.
Rosales, who won her second LPGA Tour title in 2005, had a birdie and a bogey on the front nine before making her back-nine move on The Crossings course at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail’s Magnolia Grove complex.
Futcher had the lead at 6-under after 17 holes, but dropped into a tie with a bogey on the par-4 ninth. Wright and Hedwall had bogey-free rounds.
Kraft Nabisco winner Sun Young Yoo was a stroke back along with Stacy Lewis, Morgan Pressel, Mariajo Uribe, Sydnee Michaels, Cindy LaCrosse, Haeji Kang and Mi Jung Hur.
EUROPEAN TOUR: In Seoul, Korea, Victor Dubuisson overcame tough scoring conditions to shoot 4-under-par 68 and take a two-shot lead after the first-round of the Ballantine’s Championship.
Cold weather and a fierce wind made for high scores at Blackstone Golf Club, with only 17 of the 156 players in the European Tour event finishing under par.
Dubuisson, who has yet to win in two seasons on the European Tour, had eight birdies, but did not escape the thick undergrowth lining many of the holes, making a double bogey at the fourth hole and starting his round from the 10th tee with a bogey. He leads a group of four players who shot 70, headed by Richie Ramsay.
British Open champion Darren Clarke shot 77. He has failed to finish higher than 20th in any tournament since his victory at Royal St. George’s last July.
Former Augusta State golfers Scott Jamieson and Oliver Wilson shot 76 and 77, respectively.
NATIONWIDE TOUR: In Valdosta, Ga., former Kansas State golfer Robert Streb shot 6-under-par 66 to take a one-shot lead in the South Georgia Classic.
Brian Stuard, Luke List and Sihwan Kim had 67s.
Augusta’s Scott Parel shot 75 and Aiken native Matt Hendrix had 79.
