Former President George W. Bush to speak at Junior Invitational at Sage Valley

Former President George W. Bush will speak at the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley

Former President George W. Bush, the honorary chairman of The First Tee initiative, will be the featured speaker at this year’s Junior Invitational at Sage Valley Golf Club.

According to invitations to the competitor-amateur event sent out last weekend, the 43rd president of the United States is scheduled to speak at Sage Valley in Graniteville on April 18.

The Junior Invitational at Sage Valley debuted last year and was ranked the No. 1 junior golf tournament by Golfweek magazine.

PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem presented the trophy to winner Nicholas Reach, and an hour-long TV special about the event aired on CBS.

The elite field of 54 contestants was treated to accommodations at the private club and special activities each night of the tournament.

This year’s 54-hole tournament will be April 20-22.

The First Tee is the main beneficiary of the tournament, and last year, $200,000 was split between the Augusta and Aiken chapters of The First Tee.

Bush, who served two terms as president, succeeded his father, former President George H.W. Bush, as honorary chairman of The First Tee.
