The scene is set for the defending national champion Augusta State men's golf team.
The Jaguars finished second in the NCAA Division I Southeast Regional on Saturday. Augusta State now advances to the NCAA Championship, on May 31-June 5, at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla.
Last year, the Jaguars defeated Oklahoma State in the final match of the NCAA Championship in Ooltewah, Tenn. Now, Augusta State will try to become the first team to win consecutive national titles since Houston in 1984-85. And as an added bonus, the seventh-ranked Jaguars will try to do so at the home course of the top-ranked Cowboys, who also advanced to the national championship by winning the South Central Regional.
"We feel real confident," junior Patrick Reed said. "We feel like we're playing better than we were at this point last year. We just have to tune some things up."
Reed fired a second-consecutive 67 on Saturday for a 10-under-par 206 total at Golden Ocala Golf Club in Ocala, Fla. He tied with Missouri's Jace Long and N.C. State's Mitchell Sutton for co-medalist honors. Reed became the second Jaguar to win a regional and the first since Kalle Edberg in 2005.
