DirecTV, Atlantic Broadband, WOW! to carry SEC Network

Southeastern Conference fans in the Augusta area won’t have to worry about whether they can get the SEC Network anymore.

DirecTV and Atlantic Broadband announced Monday they have reached agreements to carry the sports network when it launches Aug. 14. WOW! announced Friday that it would also carry the channel.

Comcast, Dish Network, Cox Communications, Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks, AT&T U-verse and Google Fiber had previously reached agreements to carry the network.

The first college football game that will be shown on the network is the Texas A&M-South Carolina game on Aug. 28.

“With opening day now firmly in sight, we are happy to count DirecTV, the country’s largest satellite provider, among our many distributors for the SEC Network,” SEC Commissioner Mike Slive said.

In WOW! Southeast markets, the network will be carried in the expanded basic service tier. Atlantic Broadband said the network will be offered in its suite of TiVo Double and Triple Play Bundles at no extra charge.

“WOW! is excited to introduce the SEC Network to our customers,” WOW! CEO Steven Cochran said in a news release. “Sports fans in the Southeastern communities we serve have expressed great enthusiasm for this new service, and we are pleased to bring them programming that they tell us is exceptionally valuable to them. We are also pleased to provide the channel to our customers in the Midwest.”

The network will show more than 1,000 live events, including football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball and other sports. Programming also will include studio shows, original content and spring football games.

“Forming this alliance with both the SEC and ESPN enables us to provide the Aiken community with coverage to the games that they want to watch, when they want to watch them,” said Sam McGill, Atlantic Broadband’s vice president and general manager. “It’s a huge win for us to be able to offer fans and alumni with a front-row seat to the Southeastern Conference action and rivalries by adding the SEC Network to our already rich bundle of services.”
