Georgia coach wins 900th
OXFORD, MISS. — Jasmine Hassell had 23 points and 10 rebounds and Georgia’s Andy Landers earned his 900th coaching victory as the No. 19 Lady Bulldogs defeated Mississippi 73-54 Sunday.
Landers has 818 wins with Georgia (23-4, 11-3 Southeastern Conference) and had 82 at Roane State before taking over Georgia’s program. The NCAA does not recognize his 82 wins at Roane State, a junior college in Tennessee.
Hassell hit 10 of 15 from the field as the Lady Bulldogs shot 50 percent. Shacobia Barbee added 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting and Tiaria Griffin scored 12, hitting 2 of 3 from 3-point range.
Gracie Frizzell, Valencia McFarland and Diara Moore led the Rebels (9-18, 2-12) with nine points each.
Gamecocks cruise to win
COLUMBIA — Aleighsa Welch recorded her eighth double-double of the season, scoring 20 points with 11 rebounds to power No. 15 South Carolina past Mississippi State 58-43 in a Southeastern Conference game.
Khadijah Sessions and Elem Ibiam added 11 points apiece for South Carolina (22-5, 10-4), which tied a program record with its 10th conference victory.
The Bulldogs (12-15, 4-10) started the second half on a 9-2 run. The Gamecocks responded with an 18-10 stretch, pushing the lead to 56-39 with 2 minutes to play.
