Lady Jackets fall on road to Seminoles

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Chelsea Davis scored 23 points to lead No. 22 Florida State to a 76-71 victory over Georgia Tech on Friday night.

Leonor Rodriguez and Chasity Clayton added 10 points each for the Seminoles (16-3, 6-2 ACC).

Georgia Tech’s Tyaunna Marshall led all scorers with 26 points. Brittany Jackson added 17 and Sydney Wallace had 13 for the Yellow Jackets (8-11, 1-7).

BUTLER: The men’s team is expected to have its top scorer back on the court today against Temple.

Guard Rotnei Clarke has missed the past three games with a sprained neck. Trainer Ryan Galloy says Clarke has been cleared for the game after returning to full-contact practice Thursday and remaining symptom free.

NORTH CAROLINA STATE: Men’s coach Mark Gottfried says he has spoken with freshman T.J. Warren about his decision to retweet a critical comment from a former teammate and that the team is moving on.

Warren retweeted former Wolfpack player Thomas de Thaey’s post referring to Gottfried as a “great recruiter but a terrible coach” after the 18th-ranked Wolfpack lost at Wake Forest on Tuesday.

Warren later deleted it and tweeted that it “wasn’t no jab at my head coach.”

NORTH CAROLINA: James Michael McAdoo is still learning how to be North Carolina’s go-to guy, from facing high expectations as an NBA prospect to overcoming defenses aiming to frustrate him.

“I’m not worried about myself in general,” McAdoo said. “I’ve been playing basketball my whole life. All I know is to just keep playing and keep working.”

At first glance, the 6-foot-9, 230-pound sophomore is right on schedule heading into tonight’s trip to No. 18 North Carolina State. He’s averaging 14.7 points and 8.3 rebounds to lead the team in both categories.

Yet bring up McAdoo to fans or poke around online, and much of the talk centers on what McAdoo isn’t doing.

He’s not a dominant scorer. He’s not an elite rebounder. He lacks some polish on the perimeter.
