NEW YORK — Jasmine Dixon scored five of her 13 points during a 12-0 run in the second half and No. 14 UCLA beat Saint Mary’s 76-62 on Saturday in the St. John’s Holiday Classic.
The Bruins will play St. John’s in the championship game today, while the Gaels face Tennessee Tech in the consolation game.
Trailing 49-48 midway through the second half, Dixon scored five consecutive points to kick off the game-changing burst for UCLA (6-1). Jackie Nared finally ended the 5-minute scoring drought for the Gaels, hitting two free throws to close the deficit to 60-51.
That’s as close as they’d get with Atonye Nyingifa scoring eight consecutive points to seal the win. Markel Walker had 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Bruins.
Danielle Mauldin scored a career-high 26 points and Nared added 17 to lead Saint Mary’s (6-3).
WASHINGTON STATE 62, NO. 20 OHIO STATE 55
In Pullman, Wash., Lia Galdeira scored 13 of her 15 points in the second half to help Washington State upset Ohio State.
Washington State (3-5) led 28-23 at halftime. Ohio State came back to lead 36-32, but the Cougars forced three consecutive turnovers. Taylor Edmondson’s 3-pointer put the Cougars ahead for good, 40-37.
Taylor Hill had 14 points and Ashley Adams had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Buckeyes (6-3).
NO. 23 TEXAS A&M 79, SOUTHERN CAL 61
In Los Angeles, Kelsey Bone and Kristi Bellock scored 15 points apiece to help Texas A&M (6-3) kick off a four-game road swing with a victory over Southern Cal.
Cassie Harberts led the Trojans (3-5) with 19 points and eight rebounds.
