Alabama. In their first close game of the season, the top-ranked Crimson Tide (9-0) bounced back when they needed to against Louisiana State University. Alabama faces a tough test against Texas A&M this week, but – it should go without saying – the Tide have a clear path to the Southeastern Conference Championship Game.

Mack Brown. The Texas coach is upset about rival players and fans taunting his team with the “Horns Down” hand signal. At his weekly news conference, Brown said the league needs to discuss the issue, according to USA Today. Folks, you can’t make up this stuff.

1. Georgia (8-1, 6-1 Southeastern Conference). Freshman Todd Gurley needs 143 yards to become the Bulldogs’ first 1,000-yard rusher since 2008.

2. Clemson (8-1, 5-1 Atlantic Coast Conference). Linebacker Spencer Shuey has posted 37 tackles the past three weeks.

3. South Carolina (7-2, 5-2 SEC). Ace Sanders ranks sixth in the nation in punt return average (15.9).

4. Georgia Tech (4-5, 3-3 ACC). After last week’s breakout performance, linebacker Jeremiah Attaochu has seven tackles for loss and five sacks in eight games this season.

Clemson: Tigers need Florida State to lose at Virginia Tech on Thursday night to have any hopes of an ACC title.

Georgia: Bulldogs should have an easy time against the worst rushing defense in the SEC.

Georgia Tech: Jackets are a big underdog, but they’ve won their past three against the Tar Heels.

South Carolina: Connor Shaw should be able to find success against the second-worst pass defense in the league.
