Duke surprisingly leads ACC Coastal Division

Duke's Conner Vernon picks up a first down during the victory over Virginia on Oct. 6. The Blue Devils lead the ACC Coastal Division and are bowl eligible with a 6-2 record.

Duke. Don’t look now, but the Blue Devils are leading the Atlantic Coast Conference Coastal Division by a half-game over Miami. Duke (6-2, 3-1) will prove whether it’s for real in its next two games against Florida State and Clemson.

Joe DeForest and Keith Patterson. The West Virginia co-defensive coordinators, each in their first year, have seen their squad struggle the past month. The Mountaineers have yielded 45 points or more the past four games.

In a Columbus Ledger-Enquirer story earlier this week, Georgia senior safety Shawn Williams unleashed on his teammates.

“It gets frustrating, because I’m sitting here and I’m giving all I got, and I feel like I’ve got some guys that’s not,” he said. “I feel like that I’ve got some guys that’s in a whole different place.”

1. Clemson (6-1, 3-1 ACC). The Tigers should see clear sailing the next four games.

2. Georgia (6-1, 4-1 Southeastern Conference). Brandon Coutu, Rex Robinson and Billy Bennett missed four combined extra points in their careers. Marshall Morgan has missed four in seven games.

3. South Carolina (6-2, 4-2 SEC). Quite a fall from No. 3 in the nation to a possible Outback Bowl bid in the span of two weeks.

4. Georgia Tech (3-4, 2-3 ACC). Last week’s win puts the Yellow Jackets back on the road to bowl eligibility.

Clemson: Tigers should devour Demon Deacons’ pass defense.

Georgia: Bulldogs seeking consecutive wins over Gators for first time since 1988-89.

Georgia Tech: Jackets are favored, but BYU has been tough against three top-25 foes this season.

South Carolina: Should be a bounce-back game with the Gamecocks facing the league’s worst defense.
