AIKEN — Precious Elkins had a career-high 29 points with 12 rebounds and former Hephzibah star Jasmine Judge added 15 points to help fourth-seed Lander beat No. 5 seed Limestone 77-68 in the women’s NCAA Division II Southeast Regional at the USC Aiken Convocation Center.
Elkins hit 14 of 19 shots from the field in just her eighth start of the season for the Lady Bearcats, who are appearing in their fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament.
Brittni Johnson also had a double-double, scoring 11 points with 10 assists.
Lander (22-7) was 9 of 26 from 3-point range. Judge’s fifth 3-pointer snapped a 55-all tie late in the second half and gave the Lady Bearcats the lead for good.
Stephanie Hayes had 21 points and nine rebounds and Kayleigh West added 17 points and 12 rebounds for Limestone (25-7).
NO. 2 CLAYTON STATE 51, NO. 7 TUSCULUM 26
Tusculum led 18-16 in a sloppy first half, but defending national champ Clayton State avoided the upset with strong defense in the second half of a 25-point win.
The second-seeded Lakers (29-3) shot just 20 percent (6 for 30) in the first half and were outrebounded 26-19. But Tusculum (17-11) managed just eight second-half points, and Clayton State capitalized by ending the game on a 15-0 run.
Brittany Hall and Kayla Mobley each scored 12 points to lead the Lakers.
Tusculum’s Linda Aughburns had 18 rebounds.
NO. 3 WINGATE 64, NO. 6 BARTON 59
Nikki Burton scored 20 points and Simone Rutledge added 10 points and eight rebounds as Wingate survived a late rally to beat Barton.
Wingate (23-7) never trailed but saw its 31-16 first-half lead dwindle to just one point with 1:45 to play. Burton and Rutledge each scored in the final two minutes to help the Bulldogs pull away and Sarah Wollett and Janitsha Williams each hit a pair of free throws in the final 11 seconds to seal the win.
Janetta Robinson led Barton (21-9) with 19 points, while Nyesha Willie recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
