Baylor rallies to beat Texas

AUSTIN, Texas — Quincy Acy had 22 points and 16 rebounds to power No. 13 Baylor to a tough 77-72 win over Texas on Monday night.

Baylor rallied from a 12-point deficit early in the second half, and Acy scored seven points in a row to push the Bears to a five-point lead with less than three minutes to play.

Johnathan Holmes made a 3-pointer to pull Texas within 71-70 before Pierre Jackson made six consecutive free throws to put the game away for Baylor (23-5, 10-5 Big 12).

J’Covan Brown scored 18 to lead the Longhorns (17-11, 7-8) but had a critical turnover with 12 seconds left that prevented Texas from shooting for a tie.

Brady Heslip scored 12 for Baylor and helped spark its rally with three 3-pointers in the second half.

TOP 25: Kentucky and Syracuse are 1-2 in The Associated Press Top 25 for a fourth week in a row.

The Wildcats, who have been No. 1 for five consecutive weeks and seven overall, were again a runaway choice with 63 first-place votes from the 65-member national media panel. Syracuse, which spent six weeks at No. 1, got the other first-place votes.

Missouri, Kansas and Duke stayed third through fifth and are followed by Michigan State, North Carolina, Ohio State, Georgetown and Marquette.

ALABAMA: Coach Anthony Grant has suspended junior forward Tony Mitchell for the rest of the season and is allowing suspended senior JaMychal Green to return to practice.

Grant had said earlier Monday that he didn’t expect either to play Thursday at Arkansas.

Mitchell has been out for the past four games while Green has been suspended for the past three. They are the team’s two top scorers and rebounders.

FLORIDA: The Gators should have guard Mike Rosario available tonight against Auburn after he missed the past three games with a hip pointer.
