Joe Paterno was hospitalized and undergoing tests on his right arm and hip after a player ran into the 84-year-old coach during practice.
Paterno was admitted Sunday evening to Mount Nittany Medical Center after being blindsided by receiver Devon Smith.
"I expect to be back at practice soon," Paterno said in a statement. "I'm doing fine; tell everyone not to worry about me."
Dr. Wayne Sebastianelli, Penn State's director of athletic medicine, said it doesn't appear surgery will be required. The school said Paterno could be released in the next 24 hours.
Doctors were evaluating his shoulder and pelvis, and there was no firm diagnosis yet on the extent of the injuries, said a person Monday night familiar with the team who requested anonymity because no one was authorized to speak about his condition.
Paterno walked away from the collision and stayed on his feet for the rest of the practice period before being encouraged to get checked by a doctor.
He conducted Monday morning's coaches meeting by phone. Assistant coaches will run practice while Paterno is gone, and it was unclear how long that would be, athletic department spokesman Jeff Nelson said.
GEORGIA: The No. 1 units went against the No. 2 units Monday, and coach Mark Richt said top tailbacks Richard Samuel and Isaiah Crowell "ran the ball well" against the No. 2 defense.
"Richard can't turn the corner quite as quick as Isaiah, but Richard brings a bigger load," Richt said of the 6-2, 238-pound Samuel. "You can kind of hear the ground shake when he runs."
Cornerback Brandon Boykin and safety Jakar Hamilton, a former Strom Thurmond standout, remain sidelined with hamstring injuries, as does outside linebacker Cornelius Washington, a former Burke County standout.
NORTH CAROLINA: Attorneys for football boosters are seeking public records on the firing of coach Butch Davis as they consider legal action against the school.
Matthew J. Dixon , of Elizabethtown, N.C., is one of five attorneys representing an unspecified number of boosters. He says those boosters helped fund the Kenan Stadium "Blue Zone" expansion project based on the comments of public support for Davis from chancellor Holden Thorp .
TEXAS: Senior safety Christian Scott has been suspended from the team after being arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault with bodily injury.
South Carolina State: The Bulldogs lost 11 starters off last year's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship team but remain the preseason choice to win a fourth consecutive league title.
