Two USC Aiken women’s basketball starters are leaving the program.
All-American forward Kayla Harris and point guard Brittany Hill will play their senior seasons at Wingate. When contacted on Wednesday afternoon, coach Mike Brandt said he couldn’t comment on the matter.
The Lady Pacers won their first 12 games last season and were ranked as high as No. 3 in the nation with Harris in the lineup.
On Jan. 16, Harris went down with a season-ending knee injury in a close loss to No. 4 Clayton State.
USC Aiken finished with a 22-8 record. The school advanced to the Division II Southeast Regional semifinals, where it got bounced from postseason play by Clayton State.
In 13 games last season, Harris averaged 18.2 points a game on 51 percent field-goal shooting. She also averaged 7.3 boards a game. During her sophomore campaign, Harris posted 15.8 points and 5.9 rebounds a contest.
Hill, a Quinnipiac transfer, played two seasons for USC Aiken. Last season, she averaged 8.1 points a game on 38 percent shooting. Hill led the Peach Belt Conference with 176 assists (5.9 a game), while also averaging 3.0 rebounds a contest.
The Lady Pacers return five players next season, including starter Porsha Martin, who will be a senior in the fall. Martin averaged 9.5 points and 5.3 rebounds a game.
Backup guard Mackenzie Reese came off the bench to average 8.8 points a game last season. She swished 28 3-pointers, including the buzzer-beater at Augusta State.
