CLEMSON, S.C. — Lamar Patterson had a career-high 30 points, including a 3-pointer with 3 seconds left, as Pittsburgh overcome a five-point deficit in the final seconds of regulation and beat Clemson 83-78 in overtime Saturday.

Patterson’s 3 with 3 seconds left cut the Tigers’ lead to 67-65. Josh Newkirk picked up a loose ball as Clemson fumbled the inbounds pass and hit a tying jumper that just beat the buzzer. Officials took several minutes reviewing Newkirk’s shot and decided there wasn’t indisputable evidence to rule it came after time ran out.

Given new life, Patterson struck for his fifth 3-pointer as the Panthers (23-8, 11-7 Atlantic Coast Conference) scored the first seven points of the extra period.

Clemson (19-11, 10-8) could not recover.

K.J. McDaniels had 24 points lead the Tigers.

Clemson twice got within three points in the final minute of overtime, the last when former Laney star Rod Hall stole the inbounds pass and hit a layup with 19 seconds left. But Cameron Wright followed with two clinching foul shots.

Hall finished with 12 points.

In Atlanta, Robert Carter Jr. scored 16 points, Daniel Miller and Trae Golden added 14 points and Georgia Tech (15-16, 6-12) beat Virginia Tech (9-21, 2-16).

The Yellow Jackets have won two in a row after ending a four-game skid with an upset victory at No. 7 Syracuse on Tuesday.

Joey van Zegeren finished with a career-high 21 points and seven rebounds for Virginia Tech, which has dropped six in a row and 16 of 17.

The Yellow Jackets began the day in 13th in the 15-team ACC and are likely to miss the NCAA Tournament and the NIT for the fourth consecutive year.

In Coral Gables, Fla., Garrius Adams scored 22 points to lead Miami (16-15, 7-11) over Wake Forest (16-15, 6-12).

The win moved Miami past Wake Forest for a 10th-place finish in the conference regular season standings.
