DODGERS: The team no sooner got Zack Greinke back from the disabled list when Josh Beckett took his place there.
Beckett went on the 15-day DL on Wednesday with a strained left groin. He is 0-5 with a 5.19 ERA in eight starts this season.
He left after three innings of Monday’s 6-2 loss to Washington when he tweaked his groin covering first base on a grounder.
Greinke was reinstated in time to start the series finale on Wednesday night. He had been out since breaking his left clavicle in a fight with San Diego’s Carlos Quentin on April 11.
REDS: Ace Johnny Cueto is on target to rejoin the rotation next week after making his second injury rehabilitation start.
The right-hander has been on the disabled list since April 15 because of a strained muscle in his upper right arm. Barring a setback, he’ll likely start one of the Reds’ games early next week against the New York Mets, manager Dusty Baker said Wednesday.
PHILLIES: Right-hander Carlos Zambrano has agreed to a minor league contract.
Zambrano will report to Clearwater, Fla., for extended spring training. The three-time All-Star hasn’t pitched in the majors since last September with Miami. He is 132-91 with a 3.66 ERA in 12 seasons.
RAYS: AL Cy Young Award winner David Price left Tampa Bay’s game against the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday night with left triceps tightness.
Price departed with one out in the third inning after allowing an RBI single to David Ortiz.
ROYALS: Longtime broadcaster Fred White died Wednesday of complications from cancer. He was 76 and died in hospice one day after the team announced his retirement after 40 years working for the organization.
