National League notes

BRAVES: Jordan Schafer was back in the lineup two days after he sustained a small sinus fracture fouling a bunt off his face.

Manager Fredi Gonzalez said Schafer ran, rode an exercise bike and worked in the weight room to see how he reacted to increased exertion before being added to the lineup, batting leadoff and playing center field against the Mets. Schafer was taken to a hospital after bloodying his face Friday.

Atlanta third baseman Chipper Jones was given a scheduled night off.

METS: Slumping slugger Jason Bay was given Sunday night off for what manager Terry Collins says was a chance to take a "deep breath." Dropped to sixth in the order Saturday, Bay went 0 for 4 to drop his average to .219. The Mets usual No. 4 or 5 hitter has only 10 RBI this season.

CARDINALS: Lance Berkman was not in the lineup for Sunday's game with the Chicago Cubs after receiving a cortisone injection in his left wrist.

Colby Rasmus also was scratched due to overall fatigue by manager Tony La Russa.

Jon Jay , who had been second in the original lineup, batted cleanup for the first time in place of Rasmus. Rookie Matt Carpenter was moved up from sixth to second.

Only four spots stayed the same, including Albert Pujols in the third slot. Pujols homered in the 10th inning to give St. Louis the victory.
