The Augusta GreenJackets received two players Tuesday who should make an immediate impact on the lineup.
The San Francisco Giants assigned outfielder Shawn Payne and infielder Travious Relaford to the GreenJackets. Both have played in Augusta in past assignments, including Relaford at the beginning of this season.
Payne, a 24-year-old outfielder drafted in the 35th round in 2011 out of Georgia Southern, hit .229 with 14 doubles, two triples and one home run with 21 stolen bases in 325 plate appearances for San Jose this season. He played almost all of 2012 in Augusta, hitting .309 with 53 stolen bases that caused him to show up on some prospect radars.
Relaford, also a Georgia native out of Union City, began the 2013 season in Augusta and hit .231 with five stolen bases in 56 plate appearances before getting called to Richmond. After 32 games there, the 21-year-old was assigned to San Jose, where he hit .156 in 48 plate appearances.
