ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Asheville Tourists hit two home runs which accounted for three of their four runs in a 4-2 victory over the Augusta GreenJackets on Saturday night at McCormick Field.
Trevor Story led off the bottom of the first by hitting a 2-1 pitch from Augusta starter Paul Davis over the right-field wall. The Tourists added to their lead in the second on Jared Simon’s RBI single.
Asheville hit another homer off Davis in the fifth inning. After Sam Mende doubled with one out, Will Swanner drilled his second home run of the series to stretch the lead to 4-0.
The GreenJackets scored twice in the sixth on back-to-back RBI doubles by Jose Cuevas and Joe Staley but could draw no closer.
Augusta put two on in the ninth with one out before a double play ended the game.
Davis (3-4) allowed four runs on eight hits and two walks in seven innings – his longest start of the year.
Asheville’s Ben Alsup (9-4) moved into a second-place tie in the league’s wins category. In eight innings, he scattered 10 hits and struck out five. Jefri Hernandez pitched the ninth for his 13th save of the season to move into a second-place tie for the league lead in saves.
