SC high school football Week 1 predictions

Midland Valley Mustangs at North Augusta Yellow Jackets
This locally-televised, Thursday-night games kicks off the weekend's play. North Augusta already has a game under its belt after going on the road during Week 0 for a close win over T.L. Hanna. This will be Midland Valley's first game. The Mustangs haven't beaten their closest rival since 1998.

PREDICTION: North Augusta wins 21-7

Aiken Hornets at Silver Bluff Bulldogs
This is not your typical Class AA vs. Class AAAA match up. Before Hornets coach Carey Johnson arrived at Aiken 18 years ago, Silver Bluff had a majority of the wins in this annual match up. Aiken, the bigger school, has the edge in the series more recently, winning six of the last eight meetings.

Fans never know what they're going to see when these two teams get together. Last season was a defensive battle that saw Silver Bluff win 7-6. Three years ago, the Bulldogs won 48-45 in five overtimes after a concessions stand fire caused a stadium evacuation at halftime!

PREDICTION: Aiken wins 14-10

McCormick Chiefs at Fox Creek Predators
Fox Creek lost their Week 0 season opener last week, but that experience should help this time around. The Predators aren't the same without the stars who led the program the past two seasons. Marty Williams, C.J. Williams and several others have graduated. McCormick has lost seven consecutive nonregion games, but they did reach the second round of the state playoffs last year.

PREDICTION: McCormick wins 14-7

South Aiken Thoroughbreds at Greenwood Eagles
A Week 0 road loss wasn't the worst news for South Aiken last week. Just like last year, the team lost starting quarterback Bo Baldwin to injury, and the Thoroughbreds will once again have to go to a backup. Baldwin did not return at all last year, and South Aiken did not win another game. Things aren't so severe this time around. Baldwin could be back within a month, but that won't help this week. Greenwood has gone 26-4 over the past two years and hasn't had a losing season in 15 years.

PREDICTION: Greenwood wins 35-7
